A testimonial widget is the part of a testimonial tool you see on the website: a carousel, grid, marquee or badge of quotes and videos, added with one embed code. Choosing one is less about the widget than about where its testimonials come from. Some tools collect testimonials for you and feed the widget automatically; others are display-only and show quotes you paste in. This page compares eight, with VideoTestimonials, our product, among them.
Collect-and-display vs display-only
- Testimonial tools (VideoTestimonials, Senja, Famewall, Testimonial.to, Feedspace, Shapo, ProofDeck) send customers a link to write or record a testimonial. You approve each one and it appears in the widget, with no copying and pasting.
- Widget libraries (Elfsight) sell a testimonial widget among dozens of other widgets. You type the testimonials in yourself. That is fine for five quotes you already have; it does not get you new ones, and it cannot record video.
If you have no testimonials yet, you need the first kind.
What to look for in a testimonial widget
- Layouts. Carousel and grid cover most pages; a marquee, badge or popup is useful for landing pages and checkout.
- Video. Whether the tool records video, and whether the widget plays it inline without slowing the page.
- Choosing what shows. One widget per audience or page, with the testimonials picked for it.
- Styling. Your fonts and colours, light and dark themes, and card styles that match the site.
- View limits. Some widgets are metered by monthly views and switch off at the limit.
- Branding. Whether the vendor's logo stays on the widget, and on which plan it goes.
- Free plan headroom. How many testimonials fit before you pay.

Elfsight sells a testimonials slider among more than 90 website widgets. You add the testimonials yourself. The free plan includes 1 widget and 200 views a month; Basic at $6/month includes 3 widgets and 5,000 views. Its pricing page says that exceeding the monthly views temporarily deactivates the widget.
Choose it if you already use Elfsight widgets and have a few written quotes to show.
Not for: collecting testimonials, video, or busy pages on the cheaper plans.

Widgets, search engines and page speed
Most testimonial widgets are a script that loads the testimonials into the page after it opens. That keeps embedding to one line, but it has two side effects worth knowing:
- Search engines may not read the quotes. Text that a script inserts is not always indexed the way text written into the page is. If testimonials matter for search, also publish them on a hosted Wall of Love page, or render them yourself through an API.
- Rich snippets are a plan feature. Senja adds rich snippets on Pro, Famewall review snippet schema on Standard, and Testimonial.to Google rich snippets on Ultimate. Whether stars then appear in results is up to Google.
- Video is the heavy part. Prefer widgets that show a thumbnail and load the video only when someone presses play, and keep one widget per section rather than several on the same screen.
How to add a testimonial widget
- Collect or add your testimonials in the tool, and approve the ones to show.
- Create a widget: pick a layout, choose the testimonials for it, and match colours and fonts.
- Copy the embed code.
- Paste it where the widget should appear: a Custom HTML block in WordPress, a Code block in Squarespace, a Code Embed element in Webflow, an Embed HTML element in Wix, or a Custom Liquid section in Shopify.
- Publish and check the page on a phone.
