Short answer

Squarespace runs testimonial widgets in a Code block set to HTML, on Core, Plus, Advanced, Business and Commerce plans. For video customers record themselves: VideoTestimonials ($24/month, unlimited video) or Senja ($29/month). For written quotes you type in, Squarespace's own Testimonials section is free. For Google reviews, Trustindex ($65 a year) or Elfsight.

Best Testimonial Widget for Squarespace (2026): 7 Tools Compared

Prices checked on each vendor's own pricing page between 2026-09-24 and 2026-10-08. We update this page when a vendor changes a plan.

Squarespace sites look finished out of the box, and a third-party widget has to fit that. The good news is that every tool on this page works the same way on Squarespace: you paste its embed code into a Code block. The real questions are whether your plan allows it, whether Squarespace's own Testimonials section is enough, and whether you need testimonials collected for you, including video.

How testimonial widgets work on Squarespace

From Squarespace's help centre:

  • The Code block. Edit the page, hover over a section, click Add block or +, and choose Code. Open the block editor, set the Type menu to HTML, leave Display Source off, paste the code and save.
  • Plans. JavaScript and iframes in code blocks work on the Core, Plus, Advanced, Business, Commerce Basic and Commerce Advanced plans. Other plans support HTML and CSS only, which is not enough for a widget.
  • Logged-in preview. Squarespace sometimes hides embedded code from logged-in editors; check with Preview in Safe Mode or a logged-out browser.
  • Index pages. Code in a page inside an Index might not render; Squarespace suggests removing the page from the Index to test.

The native option: Squarespace's Testimonials section

Before adding a tool, check whether you need one. In Squarespace 7.1, click Add Section and choose Testimonials. Layouts marked with an i icon are auto layouts: you add items — a quote, a name, an image — and Squarespace arranges them in columns, a carousel or a slideshow. Its help centre suggests auto layouts for content you update regularly, including testimonials. You can also simply put quotes in a text block.

The auto layouts guide is written for Squarespace 7.1; for a similar effect in 7.0, Squarespace suggests building columns and rows with blocks.

That covers five or ten written quotes you already have. It does not ask customers for testimonials, record video, import Google reviews, or let you approve submissions — every change is a manual edit. That is the gap the tools below fill.

What to look for in a Squarespace testimonial widget

  1. Video that loads on demand, so pages stay fast.
  2. Styling that matches your template: fonts, colours, light or dark.
  3. Responsive layouts that fit inside Squarespace sections and columns.
  4. Collection, if you want new testimonials rather than pasted ones.
  5. A hosted page, so you can link to a full Wall of Love on any plan.

How to add a testimonial widget to Squarespace

  1. In your testimonial tool, pick a layout, match fonts and colours to your template, and copy the embed code.
  2. In Squarespace, edit the page and hover over the section where testimonials should go.
  3. Click Add block or +, then Code.
  4. Click the pencil icon, set Type to HTML, leave Display Source off, paste the code and save.
  5. Check the live page logged out, or with Preview in Safe Mode, on desktop and mobile.

On a plan without JavaScript? Add a button or text link — "Read our customer stories" — pointing at your hosted Wall of Love.

Making a widget look native on Squarespace

  • Give it its own section. Add a section with nothing else in it and put the Code block there, so Squarespace's section padding and background frame the widget.
  • Match the section, not just the brand. On a dark section, use the widget's dark theme; on a light one, a light theme with your accent colour.
  • Set the font in the widget. Widgets usually bring their own fonts rather than your Squarespace site styles, so pick the closest match in the tool's settings.
  • Keep video click-to-play and limit a homepage widget to a handful of testimonials; put the rest on a Wall of Love page.
  • One widget, several pages. The same embed code can go into a Code block on any page, and every copy updates when you approve a new testimonial.

Linking or embedding a Wall of Love

A full page of testimonials can live on Squarespace in two ways. Embedding the wall in a Code block on a Squarespace page keeps your header, footer and navigation, but needs a plan that runs scripts. Linking to the wall's hosted page works on every plan; with VideoTestimonials Starter, that page can sit on a custom subdomain of your own.

Where testimonials earn their place on a Squarespace site

  • Homepage, below the hero: a carousel of three to six testimonials with one video.
  • Services and pricing pages: one specific quote next to the decision.
  • Booking pages: if you take appointments through Squarespace's scheduling, a short testimonial near the booking block. Squarespace's own guides for selling services recommend displaying client testimonials to build trust.
  • A Wall of Love page: everything in one place, linked from the navigation or footer.

Where VideoTestimonials fits

We are the pick when a Squarespace site needs real customers on video: they record through a link, we host the video, and one Code block shows it in a layout you have matched to your template, with a hosted Wall of Love for any plan. We are not the pick for a few static quotes (the native section), the largest template library (Senja), or Google reviews in a widget (Trustindex or Elfsight). Read the Squarespace guide or compare plans. Using another builder? See Webflow, Wix and the best testimonial widgets overall.

How we compared: Squarespace details from Squarespace's help centre; prices from each vendor's own pricing page on the dates shown above; Squarespace pages checked on each vendor's site in October 2026. VideoTestimonials is our product; we have said where each alternative is the better choice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best testimonial widget for Squarespace?+

For video testimonials that customers record themselves, VideoTestimonials ($24/month, unlimited video) or Senja ($29/month), added with a Code block. For a few written quotes, Squarespace's own Testimonials section. For Google reviews, Trustindex at $65 a year or Elfsight.

Which Squarespace plan do I need for a testimonial widget?+

Squarespace's help centre says JavaScript and iframes in code blocks work on the Core, Plus, Advanced, Business, Commerce Basic and Commerce Advanced plans. Testimonial widgets use JavaScript, so they need one of those plans.

How do I add a testimonial widget to Squarespace?+

Copy the widget's embed code, edit the page, click Add block or + in a section, choose Code, set the Type menu to HTML, paste the code and save. Leave Display Source off.

Does Squarespace have a built-in testimonials section?+

Yes. In version 7.1, click Add Section and choose Testimonials, then pick a layout with an i icon to get an auto layout that rearranges items as you add them. You type in each testimonial yourself; it does not collect them or record video.

Why can't I see my widget when I'm logged in to Squarespace?+

Squarespace sometimes hides embedded code from logged-in editors as a security measure. Use Preview in Safe Mode, or view the page logged out.

Can I show testimonials on a Squarespace plan without JavaScript?+

Not as an embedded widget. Link to a hosted testimonial page instead, such as a Wall of Love, from a button or menu item.

Which testimonial tools have Squarespace guides?+

Testimonial.to, Famewall and Shapo each publish a Squarespace page, and Elfsight lists Squarespace among supported builders. VideoTestimonials has a Squarespace integration guide. All of them work through embed code.
