Testimonial widget for WordPress

Add video and text testimonials to any WordPress page or post with a Custom HTML block — no plugin required.

Short answer

To add testimonials to WordPress without a plugin, copy your VideoTestimonials embed code, add a Custom HTML block to the page or post (type /html in the block editor), paste the code and update the page. The WordPress user saving the page needs the unfiltered_html capability, otherwise WordPress strips the script tag on save.

Testimonials on a WordPress site

How to add testimonials to WordPress

  1. 1In VideoTestimonials, open Studio → Widgets, open (or create) a widget, and copy the code from its Code tab (HTML / Script)
  2. 2In the WordPress block editor, add a Custom HTML block (click the Block Inserter or type /html) and paste the code
  3. 3Click Update or Publish and open the live page — the widget renders there
The code you paste into WordPress looks like this
<div data-vt-widget="carousel" data-vt-space-id="YOUR_SPACE_ID"></div>
<script src="https://videotestimonials.video/embed.js" async></script>

Where to put testimonials on WordPress

A testimonials section on any page or post

Testimonials between your content blocks — on a sales page, a service page or a blog post.

  1. In VideoTestimonials, open Studio → Widgets, open (or create) a widget, and copy the code from its Code tab (HTML / Script).
  2. Open the page or post in the WordPress block editor.
  3. Click the Block Inserter icon, or type /html in a new paragraph block and press Enter, to add a Custom HTML block.
  4. Click Edit HTML on the block, paste the embed code, and press Update in the code editor.
  5. Move the block where you want it with the six-dot drag handle or the up and down arrows.
  6. Click Update (or Publish) to save the page, then view it to see the widget.

A dedicated Wall of Love page

A full page of testimonials you link from your menu, footer or sales emails.

  1. In VideoTestimonials, open Studio → Walls of Love, open your wall, click the share icon and copy the Embed Code (or copy a Grid widget's code).
  2. In WordPress, create a new page and give it a title such as Testimonials or Wall of Love.
  3. Add a Custom HTML block and paste the embed code.
  4. Publish the page and link to it from your site's menu.

A Wall of Love embed is an iframe with a fixed height — change the height value in the code if the page needs more room.

Sites hosted on WordPress.com

Your site runs on WordPress.com rather than self-hosted WordPress.

  1. Check your plan under Upgrades → Plans. WordPress.com keeps script and iframe tags in a Custom HTML block only on a paid plan with hosting features activated.
  2. If hosting features aren't active yet, install at least one plugin — WordPress.com activates them when you do.
  3. Add a Custom HTML block and paste the embed code, then update the page.
  4. On the free plan, link to your Wall of Love's public URL instead of embedding it.

Good to know before you start

  • WordPress removes <script> and <iframe> tags when a user without the unfiltered_html capability (for example, a Contributor) saves the page.
  • On WordPress.com, script and iframe tags need a paid plan with hosting features activated; on the free plan they are removed.
  • The widget renders in the visitor's browser, so preview the published page rather than relying on the editor preview.

WordPress testimonials: frequently asked questions

Do I need a WordPress plugin to show testimonials?

No. The embed code goes into WordPress's built-in Custom HTML block, so there is nothing to install or keep updated. Removing the testimonials is as simple as deleting the block.

Why did my embed code disappear after I saved the page?

WordPress strips <script> and <iframe> tags when the user saving the page lacks the unfiltered_html capability — Contributors, for example. Save the page as an Administrator. On WordPress.com, the tags also need a paid plan with hosting features activated.

Can I add testimonials to a sidebar or footer?

Yes. Anywhere WordPress accepts a Custom HTML block works: a widget area in a classic theme, or a template part such as the footer in a block theme's Site Editor.

Does it work with Elementor or other page builders?

Yes, as long as the builder has an HTML or code element. In Elementor, use the HTML widget — the Elementor guide on this site has the exact steps.

How is this different from a WordPress testimonial plugin?

A plugin such as Strong Testimonials stores written testimonials inside WordPress. VideoTestimonials records video in your customer's browser, hosts it, and serves the same widget to any site you own, so one collection works on WordPress and everywhere else.

Is there a free plan for using VideoTestimonials on WordPress?

Yes. The Free plan includes 20 text testimonials and 10 video testimonials and a Wall of Love you can embed on WordPress, with no time limit and no credit card. Starter, at $24/month, adds unlimited testimonials and every widget type.
