Short answer

Nonprofits and member associations need testimonial software that is free or cheap, lets members, volunteers and donors record video without installing anything, and handles several programmes or chapters. VideoTestimonials has a free plan (20 text + 10 video), $24/month for unlimited video with 3 spaces, and a nonprofit discount on request. Senja, Feedspace and Famewall also have free plans.

For a nonprofit or member association, testimonials do a lot of work: they recruit members, reassure donors, show funders impact and make the case for a programme's next year. Video does this best — a member describing what the association changed for them is more persuasive than any annual report.

The software, though, is usually priced for businesses. Here is what matters for a nonprofit, and what it costs.

What to look for

  1. A free plan that does not expire. Many organisations start with one campaign; a 14-day trial is not enough.
  2. No app, no account for the person recording. Members, volunteers and beneficiaries vary widely in how comfortable they are with technology. A link that opens a recorder in the browser gets far more finished recordings.
  3. Several spaces. Chapters, programmes and events each want their own collection page and wall.
  4. Consent built into the form, so permission is captured when the video is recorded.
  5. Somewhere to publish — a Wall of Love page you can link to, or widgets on your site.

A simple campaign that works

  1. Pick a moment. Right after an annual meeting, a graduation from a mentoring programme or a volunteer day, while the experience is fresh.
  2. Ask three questions. What brought you here? What changed? What would you tell someone considering joining?
  3. Send one link by email and repeat it in your newsletter. Keep the request under a minute to read.
  4. Approve and publish. Put the best on a Wall of Love, and use short clips in fundraising emails and on social media.
  5. Thank people. Sending a thank-you once a testimonial is published makes the next request easier.

Our recommendation

Start on a free plan and run one campaign. If it works — and for most associations it does — the $24 plan removes the video limit and gives you three spaces for chapters or programmes. Nonprofits can email us for a reduced rate.

You can try the recorder and every widget without an account.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best testimonial software for a nonprofit?+

One with a real free plan, browser-based recording so members and volunteers need no app or account, and room for several programmes or chapters. VideoTestimonials covers all three, with unlimited video from $24/month and a nonprofit discount on request.

Is there free testimonial software for nonprofits?+

Yes. VideoTestimonials is free for 20 text and 10 video testimonials, Feedspace for 20 text and 20 video, Senja for 15 testimonials of either kind, and Famewall for 10 including one video. None of these plans expire.

Do testimonial tools offer nonprofit discounts?+

VideoTestimonials does — email support@videotestimonials.video from your organisation's address. For other tools, ask their sales or support team directly.

How do we get members to record a video testimonial?+

Send a link after a moment that matters to them — a conference, a mentoring programme, an award. Ask two or three specific questions, keep it under two minutes, and say where the video will be used. People record far more readily when nothing needs installing.

Do we need consent to publish a member testimonial?+

Yes. Collect permission at the point of recording — a consent checkbox on the form — and keep a record of it. That covers publishing on your website and in fundraising or membership materials.
