Switching from Shoutout takes three moves: get your testimonials out, bring them into VideoTestimonials, and swap the code on your website. Nothing in your Shoutout account changes until you cancel it yourself.
What moves over, and how
| From Shoutout | Into VideoTestimonials |
|---|---|
| Written testimonials with names, roles and companies | Upload CSV on the Reviews & Other tab |
| Star ratings and dates | Rating and Date columns in the same file |
| Profile photos | An Avatar URL column; each photo is copied into VideoTestimonials on import |
| Video testimonials | Upload each file on Import → Manual, or a Video URL column for direct video-file links |
| Reviews that came from other sites | Re-import from the original site; they show on your Wall of Love, not in embedded widgets |
| Forms, widgets, walls and settings | Rebuild them; nothing in this list transfers automatically |
How your setup maps
Shoutout groups testimonials into projects. In VideoTestimonials the equivalent is a space, with its own forms, widgets, Wall of Love and branding. Create one space per Shoutout project. The Free plan includes 1 space, Starter 3, Pro 10 and Business unlimited.
Step 1: Get your testimonials out of Shoutout
Look for an export or download option in your Shoutout dashboard. A CSV or spreadsheet export is the fastest route. If your plan doesn't include one, download our template (Step 2) and copy your testimonials into it. Download any video files you want to keep while your Shoutout account is still active.
Step 2: Prepare the file
VideoTestimonials reads .csv, .xlsx, .xls and .json files. The Download Template button in the import window gives you a CSV with these headers: name, email, company, role, text_content, video_url, rating, status. You can also map Avatar URL and Date columns from your own file.
- Name is the only column you must map. Each row also needs testimonial text or a video URL, or it's skipped.
- Rating should be a whole number from 1 to 5.
- Status: rows import as approved unless a mapped Status column says otherwise.
- Common headers are matched automatically, but check them: any header containing "name", such as "Company name", is matched to Name, so set it to Company yourself.
Step 3: Import the file
- Go to Dashboard → Import, open the Reviews & Other tab and click Upload CSV.
- Drop in your file and map each column to a field. Choose Ignore this column for anything you don't need.
- Check the preview of the first 10 rows, then import.
- The result shows how many rows were imported, skipped and failed. Rows that match a testimonial already in the space (same email, or same name and text) are skipped, so running the same file twice doesn't create duplicates.
Step 4: Add your videos
Open Dashboard → Import → Manual, choose the Video testimonial tab, and upload each file (MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV or WebM) with the person's name and details. Uploaded videos are transcribed automatically.
You can put links in a Video URL column instead, but widgets play them only when the link points straight to a video file (for example, one ending in .mp4), not to a page such as YouTube. Links hosted by Shoutout also stop working if that account closes, so uploading the files is safer.
Step 5: Re-import reviews from their original sites
If some of your Shoutout testimonials originally came from Google, G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, X or LinkedIn, import them again from the original site with VideoTestimonials' importers instead of copying them across.
Reviews imported from other sites keep their source and appear on your Wall of Love. Embedded widgets show only testimonials collected through your forms or added by CSV or manual upload, so plan your widgets around those.
Step 6: Rebuild your form, widgets and wall
- Collection form: in Dashboard → Forms, create a form with your questions and branding. Set the recording limit in its Settings tab (2 minutes by default, up to 5).
- Widgets: build them in Studio and filter which testimonials each one shows by type, rating or AI tag; use the Single widget to feature one testimonial.
- Wall of Love: create one in Studio → Walls of Love to replace any Shoutout wall.
Step 7: Swap the embed code
Each VideoTestimonials widget is a two-line snippet: a div and an async script tag. Paste it where the Shoutout embed sits, check the page, then remove the old code.
Plan limits to know
The Free plan holds 20 text and 10 video testimonials in 1 space and lists CSV import of 50 rows. For a larger library, Starter ($24/month, or $240/year) has unlimited testimonials, 3 spaces and a custom subdomain; Pro ($49/month) adds 10 spaces and AI features, and Business ($79/month) adds unlimited spaces and custom domains. Paid plans start with a 7-day free trial.
