Set up Auto-Import for review sites

Short answer

Auto-Import in VideoTestimonials re-checks a review page on a schedule. Open Dashboard → Import → Auto-Import, click Connect Source, pick one of 24 platforms or Any URL, paste the page URL and choose Daily or Weekly. The first check runs immediately; a scheduled job then runs once a day and adds reviews whose text isn't already in the space, unapproved, so you choose what goes public.

You will learn how to set up Auto-Import for review sites, allowing you to automatically pull new reviews daily with minimal effort.

What is Auto-Import?

Auto-Import is a feature that connects your review site URLs to VideoTestimonials. Once set up, it will automatically scrape new reviews from these sources daily or weekly, saving you time and ensuring your testimonials are always up-to-date.

Scope: Auto-Import covers the platforms in the Reviews & Other tab. It does not work for the four Social Media platforms (Twitter/X, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn). For those, import posts one at a time from the Social Media tab, or use Auto-discover mentions to surface brand mentions across the web.

How to Set Up Auto-Import

Follow these steps to connect your review sites for Auto-Import:

Step 1: Access the Import Section

  1. Log in to your VideoTestimonials account at https://app.videotestimonials.video.
  2. Navigate to the Import section from the dashboard.

Step 2: Connect a Review Source

  1. Click the Auto-Import tab.
  2. Click the Connect Source button (Connect Your First Source if nothing is connected yet) to open the modal.

Step 3: Choose Your Review Platform

  1. Pick the platform from the grid (Google, G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, Yelp, Amazon, App Store, Google Play, Product Hunt, Reddit, YouTube, AppSumo, TrustRadius, GetApp, Udemy, Skillshare, Apple Podcasts, Zillow, Realtor.com, Fiverr, WordPress, SourceForge, Chrome Web Store, HomeStars, or Any URL as a fallback).
  2. Paste the source URL for your review page and click Continue. The placeholder shows the expected format per platform.

Step 4: Set Scrape Interval

  1. Pick a scrape interval:
    • Daily — check for new reviews every day.
    • Weekly — check for new reviews once a week.
  2. Click Connect & Start Importing to save and start the first scrape.

Step 5: Monitor your sources

  1. Each connected source shows its status (Active / Paused / Error), interval, last check time, and how many reviews it has imported.
  2. Click the Run now icon to check a source immediately (at most once a minute).
  3. Use the Pause / Resume button to stop scraping without deleting the source.
  4. Click the trash icon (Remove source) and confirm to disconnect a source. Reviews it already imported stay in your space.

New reviews arrive unapproved. Approve the ones you want in Overview before they appear on your Wall of Love.

Troubleshooting

  • Errors show the reason on the source card. Sources in the Error state aren't checked on schedule until a Run now or Resume puts them back to Active.
  • Double-check the source URL matches the placeholder for that platform.
  • If a site blocks a check, the source moves to Error; click Run now later to try again.

Frequently asked questions

How often does Auto-Import check for new reviews?

A scheduled job runs once a day at 06:00 UTC. Sources set to Daily are checked when at least 23 hours have passed since their last check, and Weekly sources after about seven days. You can also click the Run now icon on a source card at any time, as long as a minute has passed since its last check.

Does Auto-Import publish new reviews automatically?

No. Reviews added by Auto-Import are saved as text testimonials that aren't approved, so they don't appear on your Wall of Love until you approve them in Overview. Embedded widgets don't show reviews imported from other sites. Each one keeps the reviewer's name, text, star rating and source link; the original review date and reviewer photo aren't carried over.

Will Auto-Import add the same review twice?

No. Before saving, Auto-Import compares each review's text with every testimonial already in the space, ignoring capitalization, and skips matches. You also can't connect the same URL twice in one space; the app tells you the source is already connected.

What happens when a source shows Error?

The source card shows the error message, and the daily job skips sources in the Error state, so they stop updating. Check the URL against the platform's placeholder, then click Run now; a successful run sets the source back to Active. To stop checks on purpose, use Pause instead, which keeps everything already imported.
