Import Google Reviews

Updated

Short answer

VideoTestimonials imports public Google reviews without connecting your Google account. In Dashboard → Import → Reviews & Other, click the Google Reviews tile, type your business name and pick it from up to 8 matches (or paste a Google Maps URL), then tick the reviews you want and import them. Reviews come from the Google Places API, which returns up to 5, plus a scrape of Google's review page.

Pull reviews from your Google Maps / Business Profile listing directly into VideoTestimonials. No Google account connection required — we search and fetch public reviews server-side.

Steps to Import Google Reviews

  1. Navigate to the Import Section: Go to Dashboard → Import → Reviews & Other at https://app.videotestimonials.video/dashboard/import.

  2. Select Google Reviews: In the Reviews & Other tab, click the Google Reviews tile.

  3. Search for Your Business:

    • Enter your business name (and city / address if needed), or paste a Google Maps URL.
    • We call the Google Places API to find the match.
    • Pick your business from the results (up to 8 are shown).
  4. Import Reviews:

    • Once you pick the business, we fetch reviews from two sources: the Google Places API (up to 5 reviews, with reviewer photos) and our own scraper (additional public reviews).
    • Duplicate reviews are removed from the list. Tick the reviews you want (or Select all) and click Import.
  5. Review Imported Data: After the import is complete, you'll see how many reviews were imported and skipped. Each one keeps the reviewer's name, text, star rating, and, where available, photo.

Troubleshooting

  • Business not found: Try including the city or address. The Places API uses Google's search ranking; obscure small businesses may not surface without a more specific query.
  • Fewer reviews than expected: The Places API returns at most 5 reviews. Our scraper picks up more, but heavily-throttled scraping days can return a short list. Retry later.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to connect my Google Business Profile?

No. VideoTestimonials looks up your business with the Google Places API and reads its public reviews server-side, so there's no Google sign-in or account connection. It also means you can only import reviews that are publicly visible on Google Maps.

Why do I see only a few Google reviews?

The Google Places API returns at most 5 reviews per business. The rest come from scraping Google's public review page, and when that scrape is blocked or slow you're left with the Places API reviews only. Try the import again later, or connect the listing in Auto-Import so it's re-checked on a schedule.

Can Google reviews sync automatically?

Yes, through Auto-Import. In Dashboard → Import → Auto-Import, click Connect Source, choose Google Reviews, paste your Google Maps URL and pick Daily or Weekly. New reviews are added unapproved for you to review, and reviews whose text is already in the space are skipped.

Do imported Google reviews count toward the Free plan limit?

Yes. Each imported review is a testimonial with a source platform, and on the Free plan the review-site tiles open an upgrade prompt once your account holds 15 of them. The counter next to the Import heading shows how many you've used. Starter, Pro and Business have no web-import cap.

Want to try this yourself?

The free plan includes 10 video testimonials, 20 text, a Wall of Love embed and CSV import. No credit card, and nothing expires.
