Collect text testimonials

Short answer

VideoTestimonials forms accept written testimonials by default: on the question step the customer chooses Respond with text and types an answer, no camera needed. To make a text-only form, open the form in Dashboard → Forms, go to the Settings tab and set Response Types to Text only. Free spaces accept 20 text testimonials; Starter and higher plans are unlimited.

By default every form in VideoTestimonials offers both video and text responses — the customer picks Record a video or Respond with text on the question step. To collect text only, set Response Types to Text only in the form's Settings tab. Text testimonials are lower friction than video — perfect for B2B, quick post-purchase surveys, and customers who don't want to be on camera.

1. Create (or open) the form

  1. Open Dashboard → Forms at https://app.videotestimonials.video/dashboard/forms.
  2. Click Create New Form, or open an existing one with Edit Form.
  3. Give it a name and optional description — you're dropped into the form builder.

2. Configure the pages

Every form has the same page blocks. On the customer side they'll see a choice between Record a video and Respond with text — for a text-focused flow you typically:

  • Keep Welcome to set context.
  • Keep Rating (optional but valuable).
  • Questions — choose the question type for each: short text, long text, NPS, checkbox, yes/no, or dropdown.
  • Keep About You and About Company to capture attribution.
  • Keep Consent (asks whether you may use the testimonial publicly).
  • Keep Thank You (configure under Thank You page settings).

3. Save and share

Click Save Changes at the top right of the builder. Saves are instant and the form is live — no separate publish step. Grab the public URL from the form's Trigger tab and share it.

What happens when a Free space reaches 20 text testimonials?

New text submissions are rejected: the customer sees an upgrade required message on the last step instead of the thank-you page, and the testimonial isn't saved. The limit counts text testimonials in the space, separately from the 10-video limit. Upgrading to Starter removes both limits.

Can a text form include multiple-choice or rating questions?

Yes. Each custom question can be short text, long text, yes/no, dropdown, NPS (0 to 10) or checkboxes, and each one appears as its own step. Dropdown needs the Starter plan, and NPS and Checkboxes need Pro. Short and long text answers become the testimonial's text.

Is a star rating required for a text testimonial?

Only if the Rating page is on. It is on by default and asks for 1 to 5 stars before anything else, and customers can't continue without choosing. Turn it off with the toggle on the Rating page block, and the form starts at the Welcome page instead.
