Short answer

In VideoTestimonials, open a form from Dashboard β†’ Forms and click Add Question on the Form tab. Pick Short Text, Long Text or Yes/No on any plan, Dropdown on Starter, or NPS and Checkboxes on Pro. Each question becomes its own step with an optional subtitle, answer options, tips and a required switch. Forms hold 3 questions on Free, 7 on Starter, 15 on Pro and unlimited on Business.

Custom questions let you ask customers exactly what you want to know, one question per step of the form.

Why Add Custom Questions?

Adding custom questions to your form helps you tailor the feedback you receive, ensuring that you get the insights necessary to improve your products or services.

Steps to Add Custom Questions

Follow these steps to add custom questions to your form:

  1. Open Your Form
Navigate to your form in the VideoTestimonials app. You can do this by going to the Forms section of your dashboard.

  2. Select the Form to Edit
Click on the form you want to edit. This will open the form builder interface.

  3. Access the Questions Section
In the form builder, locate the Questions section. This is where you can manage all the questions in your form.

  1. Add a Custom Question

    • Click the Add Question button.
    • Pick a question type:
      • Short Text β€” single-line input (Free)
      • Long Text β€” paragraph answer (Free)
      • Yes / No β€” simple yes-or-no (Free)
      • Dropdown β€” select from a list (Starter plan and up)
      • NPS Score β€” 0–10 recommendation score (Pro plan and up)
      • Checkboxes β€” select multiple options (Pro plan and up)
    • Enter the Question title, an optional Subtitle, Answer Options, and Helpful Tips, and switch on Required Field if needed.
  2. Check the Question Order
Questions appear on the form in the order you add them, each as its own step between the Welcome page and the Private Feedback page. The builder doesn't currently offer a way to drag questions into a new order.

  3. Save Your Changes
Once you have added all your custom questions, make sure to click the Save Changes button to apply your changes.

  4. Preview Your Form
After saving, preview your form to ensure that the custom questions appear as expected.

Tips for Effective Custom Questions

  • Be Clear and Concise: Ensure that your questions are easy to understand.
  • Limit the Number of Questions: Too many questions can overwhelm respondents. Focus on what’s most important.
  • Use Different Question Types: Mix short text with dropdown or Yes/No to keep the form engaging.

By following these steps, you can effectively gather the specific feedback you need from your customers through custom questions.

Frequently asked questions

Do customers have to answer every question?

In practice, yes. Each question is its own step, and in text mode Continue stays disabled until that step's question has an answer, whether or not Required Field is on; required questions also show an asterisk. In video mode, each question step needs a recording before the customer can continue.

Can I write my questions in another language?

Yes. Question titles, subtitles, tips and the text on each page are whatever you type, so they can be in any language. Some built-in labels on the question step and in the video recorder, such as Record a video, Respond with text, Start Recording, Back and Continue, stay in English.

Can AI suggest questions for my form?

Yes. In the Choose Question Type window, click Generate with AI to open the AI Question Generator, which suggests questions for your industry and goal. The questions you select are added to the form as text questions and still count toward your plan's question limit.
